Why should you support the Diabetes Center at Sound Shore?

• 7% of the population will be diagnosed with diabetes over their lifetime.
• Diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in the United States. Since 1987 the death rate due to diabetes has increased by 45 percent, while the death rates due to heart disease, stroke and cancer have declined.
• There are approximately 300 new patients diagnosed at Sound Shore Medical Center each year.
• There has been a steady increase of 25% of new patients treated each year at the Diabetes Center at SSMC. Over 4,000 patients were treated this year.
• It will be one of the largest events of its kind in southern Westchester County
• It is an opportunity to partner with a leading organization within our community

• All funds go directly to the Jacee Lynn Cappelli Diabetes Center to provide patients and families with the highest quality care for diabetes right here where it is needed.

The Jacee Lynn Cappelli Diabetes Center at Sound Shore Medical Center was officially named in the fall of 2007, and opened in spring 2008 and is home to the Elaine and Melvin Merians Education and Conference Center. The only one of its kind in lower Westchester County, the Cappelli Center provides many services to our patients including educational programs, screening and prevention, treatment and counseling. Diabetes is now the fifth deadliest disease in the United States, and the death rate has increased by 45% since 1987. Approximately 300 new patients are diagnosed at Sound Shore Medical Center each year. With your support, our doctors can provide the best medical care to our patients as well as a unique and comprehensive community support system for the treatment of diabetes.
